ADP Funding: How to Get Financial Assistance for Mobility Equipment in Ontario
Alec Mladenovic • March 21, 2025

If you or a loved one are living with a long-term physical disability in Ontario, the Assistive Devices Program (ADP) may be able to help. Administered by the Government of Ontario, ADP provides financial assistance to help cover the cost of essential mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, standers, and other assistive devices.

At Universal Health Products, we understand how important these devices are to maintaining independence and quality of life. That’s why we help our customers every step of the way when it comes to navigating ADP funding.

What is ADP?

The Assistive Devices Program is a provincial initiative designed to support Ontario residents with long-term physical disabilities. ADP helps offset the costs of assistive devices, making them more accessible and affordable.

The program covers a portion of the cost of approved devices, including:

  • Manual and power wheelchairs
  • Walkers and rollators
  • Pediatric mobility devices
  • Communication aids
  • Orthotic and prosthetic devices
  • Respiratory equipment

Who is Eligible for ADP?

To qualify for ADP, you must:

  • Be an Ontario resident with a valid OHIP card
  • Have a long-term physical disability (lasting 6 months or more)
  • Require the device for personal use and daily living

Please note: ADP does not cover temporary injuries or equipment used exclusively for recreational purposes.

How Much Does ADP Cover?

ADP typically covers up to 75% of the cost of eligible mobility equipment. For some individuals receiving social assistance, the program may cover up to 100%.

The remaining balance may be paid out-of-pocket or through private insurance or charitable support programs.

How to Apply for ADP Funding

  1. Consult a Registered Authorizer: This could be a physiotherapist, occupational therapist, or other medical professional approved by ADP. They will assess your needs and recommend the appropriate device.
  2. Choose an Approved Vendor: Universal Health Products is an ADP-approved vendor, meaning we are authorized to supply and bill ADP for eligible equipment.
  3. Submit Your Application: Your authorizer and vendor will complete the application and submit it to ADP for approval.
  4. Wait for Approval: Once approved, the funding will be applied, and you can receive your device with little to no upfront cost.
